I am an NBCT*! According to the certificate displayed proudly on my office wall, it says:
“This candidate (me, emphasis added) has met the high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do, and has successfully completed the national assessment certifying teachers who have met these standards”.
What does this mean? It means I worked my tail off — However, it also means that I discovered my true passion …. Being a Servant-Leader and a Teacher! The NBPTS* Five Core Propositions frame this page and the subpages below because — simply put — Each one captures the essence of the Teacher as Servant Leader.
Proposition 1: Teachers Are Committed to Students and Their Learning
Proposition 2: Teachers Know the Subjects They Teach and How to Teach Those
Subjects to Students
Proposition 3: Teachers Are Responsible for Managing and Monitoring Student Learning
Proposition 4: Teachers Think Systematically About Their Practice and Learn from Experience
Proposition 5: Teachers Are Members of Learning Communities
NBCT: National Board Certified Teacher
NBPTS: National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
